Generate random numbers, names, groups, roll dice, and flip coins
The Random Generator is a versatile tool designed to introduce randomness and fairness into various academic and recreational activities. From generating random numbers to creating balanced study groups, rolling dice, or flipping coins, this tool provides multiple randomization functions in one convenient interface.
Select which type of random generation you need: numbers, names/groups, dice, or coins. Each section of the tool provides different randomization functions for specific purposes.
For number generation, set your minimum and maximum values and quantity. For name picking, enter your list of names. For dice and coins, select the type and quantity you wish to roll or flip.
Click the appropriate button ("Generate Numbers," "Pick Random Name," "Create Groups," "Roll Dice," or "Flip Coin") to produce your random results based on your configured settings.
The results will appear in the designated results area below each generator section. For dice and coins, visual representations will be displayed along with the numerical results.
Click the generation buttons again to create new random results with the same settings, or adjust your parameters to generate different types of results.
This tool uses high-quality pseudorandom number generation algorithms to ensure results are as random as possible within a computer system. The randomness is suitable for educational and recreational purposes.
There is no strict limit on the number of names you can enter, but for optimal performance, we recommend keeping your list under 100 names. The tool will distribute names as evenly as possible among your specified number of groups.
Currently, you can copy and paste the results into another document. We're working on adding direct export functionality in a future update to allow saving results as text or CSV files.
When checked, this option ensures that each random number generated is unique (no duplicates). This is useful for applications like lottery number generation or random sampling without replacement.
Different dice types serve various purposes. D20 (20-sided) dice are commonly used in role-playing games to determine success of actions, while D100 (percentile dice) are useful for calculating percentage chances or creating random tables with many options.
