Calculate your final grade based on assignment weights

About This Tool

The Grade Calculator helps you determine your final course grade by calculating weighted averages of your assignments, exams, projects, and other course components. This tool is essential for students who want to track their academic progress, set grade goals, or determine what scores they need on upcoming assessments to achieve their desired final grade.

How to Use

  1. Click "Add Component" to add each graded item (assignments, exams, etc.)
  2. For each component, enter a name, weight (percentage of final grade), and your score
  3. Mark components as "completed" if you've received a grade, or leave unchecked for planned assignments
  4. View your current grade calculation and total weight distribution in real-time
  5. Use the "What-If Scenarios" section to calculate what score you need on remaining work to achieve a target grade

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my total weight doesn't add up to 100%?

The calculator will show you the total weight of all components. For accurate results, your components should add up to 100%. If they don't, consider adjusting the weights or adding missing components.

How are letter grades determined?

The tool uses a standard grading scale (A: 90-100%, B: 80-89%, C: 70-79%, D: 60-69%, F: 0-59%). Your institution may use a different scale, so consider this as a general reference.

Can I save my grade calculations?

Currently, grade calculations are stored in your browser's local storage. They will persist between sessions on the same device and browser, but aren't synchronized across devices.

What does "Needed Grade" mean?

The "Needed Grade" calculation shows what average score you need on all remaining (uncompleted) components to achieve your target final grade.
